Kawhi Leonard sues Nike over 'Klaw' logo ownership

Kawhi Leonard sues Nike over 'Klaw' logo ownership”

Kawhi Leonard has filed a federal lawsuit against Nike over use of the "KL" hand logo, which became a popular logo for the former Spurs All-Star during his time in San Antonio.

Kawhi Leonard also wants to use the logo for clothing brands, footwear, and other related goods in connection with sports camps and charities. Leonard reportedly drew the logo shortly after being drafted into the National Basketball Association in 2011, and it has since been used on Nike merchandise, as Leonard was previously signed to Jordan Brand.

A few years later he allowed Nike to use their logo as part of a promotional contract, but only on individual items.

Leonard, who now plays for the Toronto Raptors of the National Basketball Association, said he first designed his logo, which "included elements that were meaningful and unique to him", in 2011. The Clippers' suspected motive was an attempt to gain Leonard's interest during his upcoming free agency, but it looks like the Raptors star and New Balance endorsee could be putting an end to any negotiations-and take back what he says is his.

The ultimate goal of the lawsuit is for Leonard to reclaim sole control over the logo so he can do with it as he pleases. He said he started to create the logo while he was still in college. Leonard, a Nike endorser until 2018, is now endorsed by New Balance.

In the lawsuit, Leonard said Nike filed a copyright application for a logo that he designed and did so "unbeknownst to Leonard and without his consent".

Kawhi Leonard is filing a lawsuit against Nike.

Leonard claims that he developed the logo himself by tracing his very large hands.

This is certainly something Kawhi is having his lawyers deal with so he can focus on the NBA Finals and trying to steal a game at Oracle as the series is tied 1-1.
