Turkey beat France 2-0 in EURO 2020 qualifiers

Turkey beat France 2-0 in EURO 2020 qualifiers”

World champions France were given a cold shower on Saturday in a UEFA Euro 2020 qualifier against Turkey, who kept up pressure throughout the game for a 2-0 home win and placed themselves in the lead in Group H.

The celebrations, many of which were captured on social media, choked several streets in the French capital as the delirious fans clad in their country's colors marched towards the Arc de Triomphe.

Meanwhile, Germany assistant coach Marcus Sorg hailed an "impressive" performance after his team eased to a routine 2-0 win over Belarus in Borisov.

France will have their chance at redemption when they welcome Turkey to Paris in October.

Turkey lead Group H with nine points, having won all three games so far. "We are all looking forward to Jogi's return", Sorg said. "We didn't play the way we should have against a team which played the way it likes to".

Artem Dzyuba scored four goals and Michele Cevoli two own goals as Russian Federation thumped San Marino 9-0, while Oliver Burke's last-minute strike got Scotland out of jail in a 2-1 win at home to Cyprus after Andy Robertson's screamer was cancelled out by Ioannis Kousoulos.

After a poor collective display from the World Cup winners, goalkeeper Lloris says the France players should consider what more they could have contributed.

Roberto Mancini's side are in pole position after picking up three wins from their opening three games without conceding a goal.

Norwich City striker Teemu Pukki struck both goals inside 12 second-half minutes, striding through the visiting defense to open the scoring before adding the second with a delicate chip. Goals from Leroy Sane and Marco Reus in Belarus were enough to give Germany two wins from their two matches so far in Group C.

"For example, in the second half we had to score more goals". Three minutes later the Greeks were reeling when Bonucci latched onto an Emerson Palmieri cross to head home. "There's still a lot of work to do but the important thing is that we continued to improve and had the right attitude".
