American Air extends Boeing Max cancellations through September 3

American Air extends Boeing Max cancellations through September 3”

American's reservations team will contact customers still affected by the cancelations by email or telephone and passengers whose flights are canceled and who choose not to rebook are entitled to a refund.

The updated schedules represented a 15-day extension from the airline's previous cancellation period of the trouble-plagued aircraft until August 19 that was made in April.

The world's largest airline, which has 24 of the 737 Max jets in its fleet, said it is canceling about 115 flights a day through September 3 as a result of the grounding.

The extension is meant to give passengers more time to plan upcoming travel, American said.

None the less, the largest US domestic airliner, American Airlines had said earlier on May that it would be cancelling its fleet of Max 737 up to August 19th, however as it became uncertain when the US FAA (Federal Aviation Authority) would approve Boeing's latest software fix for Max 737 following reveal of another glitch on its wings later last month, American Airlines had chose to extend its grounding of Boeing's Max 737 up to September.

Regulators must re-certify the plane before commercial flights can resume, but say there's no timeline for when that will happen.

Nevertheless, the carrier is "confident" that impending 737 MAX software updates will lead to recertification of the aircraft "soon" and claims it is "pleased with progress to date", as is noted in a statement issued on June 9, 2019. "In total, approximately 115 flights per day will be cancelled through September 3", American Airlines said in a statement.

Boeing's hot-selling 737 Max's were grounded worldwide after two of the packed planes of the series crashed in similar fashion in Indonesia and Ethiopia, killing everyone on board.

Asked last month it is realistic that the 737 MAX could be flying again by August, Elwell declined to be specific.

'If it takes a year to find everything we need to give us the confidence to lift the (grounding) order so be it'.

Global airlines that had rushed to buy the fuel-efficient, longer-range aircraft have since cancelled flights and scrambled to cover routes that were previously flown by the MAX.

Boeing is finalizing a software fix for a flight-control system malfunction linked to the accidents involving Lion Air and Ethiopian Airlines, as well as proposed new pilot training.
