Assassinated brother of Kim was 'CIA informer'

Assassinated brother of Kim was 'CIA informer'”

Jong-nam, born to a North Korean starlet, and Jong-un to Ko Yong Hui, a dancer, had experienced isolated childhoods, and both were educated separately in Switzerland. "Kim Jong-nam provided information to them, usually meeting his handlers in Singapore or Malaysia".

North Korea has significantly reduced its dialogue and engagement with South Korea since February, when a high-stakes nuclear summit between Kim Jong Un and President Donald Trump collapsed over disagreements on exchanging sanctions relief for disarmament.

Despite that exile, there has always been speculation that foreign intelligence agencies - especially China's - maintained contact with him, in particular, as a possible leader in case Kim Jong Un fell from power.

Kim Jong Nam was previously reported to have met with a United States intelligence agent in a hotel in Malaysia, days before being killed, Japanese news outlet Asahi Shimbun reported in 2017.

"Kim Jong Nam's backpack from the airport contained $120,000 in cash", she said, positing it could have been payment for spying - or money from his gambling business.

The sister, Kim Yo Jong, visited the border village of Panmunjom in the demilitarized zone separating the two Koreas to pay her respects to Lee Hee-ho, the widow of former South Korean President Kim Dae-jung, a South Korean official said. Pyongyang has denied the allegation.

U.S. President Donald Trump took a public stance against the use of CIA informants to spy on North Korean leader Kim Jong Un on Tuesday, saying it would not happen on his watch and possibly taking away a valuable tool of the U.S. intelligence community.

The slain half-brother of North Korean leader Kim Jong-un was reportedly an informant for the Central Intelligence Agency.

Trump, speaking to reporters outside the White House on Tuesday, said Kim's letter came Monday.

They said a third Trump-Kim summit without meaningful working-level talks beforehand would raise the risks of another embarrassing failure. "That's very important to me", Trump said.

The North Korean leader's half brother was killed in Malaysia's Kuala Lumpur International Airport in February 2017, when two women smeared the nerve agent VX on his face.

Two young women, one Vietnamese and one Indonesian, were arrested and charged with the murder. They insisted they were tricked by North Korean agents into carrying out the hit and thought it was a reality TV show prank.

Kim Jong Nam, once expected to be the heir to his father Kim Jong Il, had called himself a free spirit and travelled to many countries including France and Switzerland, explained an intelligence source.
