Houthi Attack on Saudi Arabia's Abha Airport Injures 26”

The Saudi-led coalition fighting Yemen's Houthis says the group have attacked Saudi Arabia's Abha airport in the southwest of the kingdom, injuring 26 civilians.

Saudi Arabia's Abha airport, which was targeted by the Iran-backed Houthi rebels on Wednesday in a rocket attack that injured at least 26 people.

Colonel Turki al-Maliki, a spokesperson for the coalition, said: "At 02:21 this morning, a hostile rocket landed at the arrival lounge at Abha International Airport, which has thousands of civilian passengers daily from different nationalities".

Last month, the Saudi air force shot down a bomb-laden drone deployed by Houthi rebels that targeted Jizan airport, close to the southern border with Yemen, the coalition said. The other 18 were discharged after receiving first aid, he said in a statement carried by the official Saudi Press Agency (SPA).

Al-Malki said that security forces are working to determine the type of projectile used in the terrorist attack.

Malki described the incident as a terrorist attack on a civilian target that could be considered a war crime.

They said the assault on Saudi Arabia was meant to send a message to the kingdom to "stop your aggression" on Yemen.

The Pentagon increases America's military footprint in the Middle East to counter an unspecified Iranian threat to USA troops.

The latest attack, which is yet to be confirmed by the Saudis, comes a day after Riyadh said it intercepted two drones fired by the Iran-aligned group, which controls a large part of Yemen, including the capital Sanaa. A Saudi-led coalition has been carrying out airstrikes against the Houthis at Hadi's request since March 2015.

Earlier this year President Donald Trump vetoed a bill passed by Congress to end USA military assistance for the Saudis in Yemen.
