Memphis Grizzlies name Taylor Jenkins new head coach

Memphis Grizzlies name Taylor Jenkins new head coach”

The Grizzlies were the final team looking for a new head coach, so every team in the National Basketball Association now has a head coach in place as the draft and free agency approaches.

According to ESPN, the Memphis Grizzlies are hiring Taylor Jenkins, a Milwaukee Bucks assistant, as their next head coach.

Jenkins was assistant to head coach Mike Budenholzer for the past six seasons, five with the Atlanta Hawks (2013-18) and a year ago with the Bucks. Prior to that he served as a head coach with the Austin Spurs of the G League. Jenkins becomes Memphis' fourth head coach since the Grizzlies chose not to renew Lionel Hollins' contract after he led them to their lone Western Conference final appearance in 2013. Budenholzer, of course, earned his shot as a head coach after 18 seasons working under Gregg Popovich in San Antonio.

Jenkins has rapidly built a reputation as an outstanding young teacher and tactician, and he'll take over a Grizzlies roster that includes veteran star Mike Conley Jr. Jackson averaged 13.8 points per game as a rookie. Jenkins will be replacing J.B. Bickerstaff, who was relieved of his duties in April after two seasons with the team.

"We are excited to welcome Taylor Jenkins to the Grizzlies organization", Grizzlies executive vice president of basketball operations Zachary Z. Kleiman said in a team-released statement.
