Drinking coffee may boost body's own fat burning mechanism

Drinking coffee may boost body's own fat burning mechanism”

The amount of brown fat in adult humans diminishes with age, and is also negatively correlated with increasing body mass index, so it is feasible that changing the rate of BAT loss could have "marked benefits for human health", the authors continued.

"I'd still recommend a cup o' joe at some point in the morning for a mental boost and pep in the day, but definitely not to help you lose weight - unless you're using that caffeine for stimulation of a heart-pounding workout", she said.

From the School of Medicine at the University of Nottingham, Professor Michael Symonds stated that drinking some espresso can enable you to get more fit by animating brown fat, which consumes calories to produce body heat, specialists have found.

Brown fat, or brown adipocerous tissue, impacts how quickly one's body burns calories.

The study, co-directed by Mr Symonds and written up in the journal Scientific Reports, fused stem cells to see if caffeine would stimulate brown fat before moving on to humans. "The potential implications of our results are pretty big, as obesity is a major health concern for society, and we also have a growing diabetes epidemic, and brown fat could potentially be part of the solution in tackling them", said Symonds.

Until now, there was no known way to stimulate brown fat, which is most often found in the neck region. Is It Healthy to Drink Coffee?

The team used a thermal imaging technique on four men and five women to trace the brown fat reserves and see how it produced heat. "New research suggests a fat-busting effect".

New research has recommended a link between coffee & the activation of fat fighters in the body. "We all have that warm feeling after we drink a cup of coffee, because we're stimulating that brown fat", he said. Once they found the right dose, they moved on to humans to see if the results were similar. "We are now looking at caffeine supplements to test whether the effect is similar", added Symonds.

According to the Daily Mail, researchers from Nottingham University tested their theory on human cells in a lab to great success.

"Once we have confirmed which component is responsible for this, it could potentially be used as part of a weight-management regime or as part of glucose regulation program to help prevent diabetes". It is believed the caffeine is what triggers the beneficial effects.
