Nevada's NV Energy in major solar-plus-storage push

Nevada's NV Energy in major solar-plus-storage push”

NV Energy is excited to work with EDF Renewables to bring more low cost clean energy and battery storage to the state of Nevada and our customers, said Doug Cannon, NV Energy President and CEO. The plants will be installed in southern Nevada's Clark County as part of projects that won a competitive solicitation in the autumn of 2018.

In Nevada, deployment of solar PV and other renewables is being fostered under the so-called Senate Bill 358, which mandates a 50% renewable share across power providers by 2030.

This Residential Solar Energy Storage Market report is integrated with primary as well as secondary research of the Global industry.

Earlier this month, the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission's (FERC) Energy Infrastructure Update with data through April 2019 showed that renewable installed capacity surpassed coal, with renewables accounting for 21.56 percent of total available installed US generating capacity, compared to a 21.55-percent share for coal's installed capacity.

The projects include a 690 MW array with a 380 MW battery storage system on federal land near Las Vegas.

The newly announced projects will be added to NV Energy's current portfolio of 57 geothermal, solar, hydro, wind, biomass and supported rooftop solar projects both in service and under development. It is being developed by EDF Renewables North America.

The Southern Bighorn Solar & Storage Center, developed by 8minute, will combine a 300 MW solar facility with a 135 MW lithium ion battery and will be located on the Moapa River Indian Reservation.

Hydroelectric dams, solar panels and wind turbines generated nearly 68.5 million megawatt-hours of power in April, eclipsing the 60 million that coal produced that month, Energy Information Administration data released late Tuesday show. Last year, the utility put forward a 1GW-plus PV pipeline across six projects, designed with an aggregate 100MW in battery storage. The project will be located in Clark County, Nevada, 25 miles northeast of Las Vegas on approximately 7,100 acres of federally-owned land under the management of the Bureau of Land Management.
