ACCC takes Samsung to court

ACCC takes Samsung to court”

The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) has made a decision to file a lawsuit against Samsung over the claims that it misled consumers about the water resistance of its Galaxy smartphones.

In their phones' adverts, Samsung seem to make it clear that certain phones are water-resistant, working after being completely soaked in water. The entire electronics big's flagship phones have since carried the IP68 certification for water resistance and have been marketed as water-friendly phones. However, in reality, the Galaxy handsets can not withstand all kinds of water, as Samsung's itself cautions Galaxy S10 owners against using their phones in a beach or a pool on its website.

The phones subject to the ACCC's case include the S10e, S10, S10 Plus, S9, S9 Plus, S8, S8 Plus, S7, S7 Edge, Note 9, Note 8, Note 7, A8, A7, and A5, manufactured between 2016 and 2019.

The Australian Competition & Consumer Commission lawsuit stated that largest smartphone maker of the world had not sufficiently testes the effects of the salt water or pool exposure on its phone or did not know when displayed in its ads phones being fully submerged in the water.

Samsung has sold more than four million Galaxy branded phones in Australia.

The ACCC claims that Samsung has rebuffed warranty claims by clients who say their phones have been broken by water exposure.

The upcoming Note10 might be the new hotness, but deals on this year's Galaxy S10 models are getting better and better.

The company said that the same 20W technology could be used to charge other products such as the Galaxy Buds case from the phone.
