Nintendo Switch Lite goes all handheld later this year

Nintendo Switch Lite goes all handheld later this year”

At $200, the Switch Lite is $50 more than the $150 2DS XL, the most recently introduced product in Nintendo's line of portable gaming devices.

Nintendo today announced a cheaper and lighter version of its Switch video game console called Switch Lite. However, Nintendo has kept the same resolution, so games should look a little sharper on the Switch Lite.

Nintendo Switch Lite will come in multiple colors.

This is a watershed moment for the Switch (and Nintendo's strategy as a whole), and potentially, the final nail in the coffin for the 3DS.

Now about that rumour of the Nintendo Switch getting a heavy-duty upgrade?

The new console will be made available on September 20, and it'll be priced at $199.99.

When it releases, you'll be able to pick up the Nintendo Switch Lite for $199.99 (roughly £160 or AU$290).

Nintendo told The Verge there aren't any performance differences between the Switch and Switch Lite, and you can use the same accessories for both of them, including the Joy-Con controllers, Switch Pro Controller, and the Poke Ball Plus.

That being said, it also gains a bit in battery life, with 3 to 7 hours instead of 2.5 to 6.5 hours. According to the Big N, the new console can play every games in the Switch library that support handheld play, although some titles will have restrictions. That means no motion controls, IR camera, Labo support, or HD rumble. You can not connect the system to the dock.

Nintendo Switch Lite is 3.6 inches high by 8.2 inches long and 0.55 inches deep.

The regular Switch dimensions, with Joy-Cons attached, is 102mm x 239mm x 13.9mm. Nintendo has a neat "Which Nintendo Switch is right for you?" page if you'd like to compare the two directly. Nintendo has clarified that the back-of-box information for physical games, or Nintendo's website, will say if this is the case.
