IPhone without a notch above screen planned for 2021

IPhone without a notch above screen planned for 2021”

The second one comes from an analyst at investment firm Credit Suisse.

iPhone with In-Display Touch ID in the works?

As far as when other iPhone models will go notch-less, the analyst gives a timeline of 2021. In 2021 the bite must disappear completely from the screen. Separately, an investor note shared by Credit Suisse in China says Apple is working with its screen suppliers to develop full screen displays without notches on top.

The overall numbers, however, are still fairly small, with Neil Shah, Research Director at Counterpoint Research, reportedly telling the publication that less than 100,000 units of the iPhone 6s and iPhone 7 are being exported per month.

Trusted Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo also makes similar claims. "It is also early, so these plans could change".

As per a report by MacRumors, "The notch has been a controversial design decision since it debuted on the iPhone X in 2017, and it has always felt like a stopgap on the way to an iPhone with a truly edge-to-edge display, so these rumours certainly have some plausibility".

The new range of iPhones are expected to feature OLED displays with varying screen sizes of 5.4-inches, 6.1-inches and 6.7-inches. The company is rumored to ditch Face ID, but only for China to help reduce the price of iPhone. Removing the TrueDepth sensor, which is required by Face ID, will automatically result in a smaller notch.

According to the source, Apple would add an under-screen front camera and a return to Touch ID, via a full-screen authentication service rather than via a traditional home button.

Moreover, Chinese smartphone makers such as Oppo and Xiaomi already showcased phones with under-screen front cameras. But this year we are seeing many smartphones with designs from edge to edge thanks to camera mechanisms emerge. However, such reports and rumors must be taken with a grain of salt. Keeping the notch in place for one more generation indicates that Face ID isn't going away. After Apple released the first beta versions of iOS 13, evidence was discovered inside that 3D Touch may not be needed at all.
