Morgan urges England to embrace World Cup 'dream'

Morgan urges England to embrace World Cup 'dream'”

"I don't think you can find any one particular weakness a day out and say tomorrow we are going to predict this is going to happen because the majority of the time you get it wrong".

Watch England take on Australia in the second semi-final from 9.30am on Thursday on Sky Sports Cricket World Cup.

Asked if the World Cup hosts were feeling excited, nervous or simply focused on the task at hand, Morgan added: "All of those things".

England's woeful first-round exit at the 2015 edition prompted a complete rethink of their approach to one-day internationals for a side that had long placed Test success above all other considerations. "I played in teams where you didn't expect to win and the public didn't expect you to win". The fact that through the group stages getting to this stage looked unlikely, or was called into question, makes it even more exciting for us. We're full of confidence going into this game, but England have been front runners in one-day cricket for the last four years.

England lost three of their nine group-stage games, with back-to-back defeats to Sri Lanka and their semi-final opponents Australia casting their qualification for the knockout stage in some doubt.

"He's bowled some key overs for us that have allowed us to mix and match our bowlers through them middle overs".

"Everybody is fit. It (selection) depends on the groundsman's final preparation this afternoon", Morgan told reporters.

"We are a different sort of animal compared to our last teams".

But England are back to their best since that loss to Australia as they beat India and New Zealand in their final two league games.

David Warner has scored 638 runs this tournament following the left-handed opener's return to worldwide cricket after a 12-month ban for his role in a ball-tampering scandal in South Africa.

While England don't have injury issues, Australia coach Langer has already confirmed Peter Handscomb will replace an injured Usman Khawaja in the playing eleven.

"They've been there and done it before but not against this bunch of players", he said.

As for Australia, skipper Aaron Finch played down Glenn Maxwell's absence from training ahead of Thursday's game, saying it was a "purely optional training session".

"I feel like we had a wobble at the right time, a bit of a blip, and it's made us stronger".
