Roger Federer reaches semifinals after winning 100th Wimbledon match

Roger Federer reaches semifinals after winning 100th Wimbledon match”

While a repeat of that epic appears unlikely, few matches in recent years have whet the appetite as this upcoming semifinal.

The Swiss kept his hopes of a ninth title in South West London alive by beating number eight seed Kei Nishikori 4-6, 6-1, 6-4, 6-4, to notch his 100 win at the All England Club.

And there was no stopping Nadal on Wednesday as he soaked up 22 thunderbolt aces to flatten Querrey 7-5 6-2 6-2 and reach his 32nd Grand Slam semi-final and seventh at Wimbledon.

Nadal faced a tough test early on against big-serving Querrey, whose first serves were topping the 130 miles per hour mark. A four sets victory gave Federer his fourth Wimbledon.

Let's take a look at the betting history behind Nadal and Federer's 13 Grand Slam matches dating all the way back to their first showdown in 2005...

"We have a lot of information on Rafa, as does he on us".

He did have some trouble closing out the first set against Querrey, an American ranked 65th who was trying to reach his second Wimbledon semifinal.

Not only is Calvert releasing his victor and three confident prop picks, he's also including his best bets for the first semifinal featuring Novak Djokovic vs. Roberto Bautista Agut.

However, based on service/return points won on grass during the same time period, and that same data across Wimbledon this year, Federer does have an advantage that should suggest the market pricing should be reversed, and, if I was forced to have a bet today, it would be Federer as an underdog here.

My concern is that despite Bautista-Agut winning three of their previous 10 meetings, he's only won 55% of service points and held serve just 63% of the time against Djokovic.

Here's how tennis experts expect Federer vs Nadal to pan out.

The duo have not met at the All England Club since their titanic tussle in the 2008 final, when Nadal outlasted Federer over five thrilling sets that finished in the late evening gloom.

The Big Three's domination might have limited the emergence of younger talent, but Meagher believes fans should enjoy while it lasts.

Federer and Nadal are surely pleased to still be around, too.

"Overall, I'm just very happy how I'm hitting the ball, " Federer said. Visit SportsLine now to see Sean Calvert's strong 2019 Wimbledon picks for the semis, all from the British tennis expert who's up almost $4,400 on grass-court events. Nadal won the next three games of the opening set before Querrey snatched the fifth game.

Like Roenigk, Wertheim suggests there is a case to make Nadal favorite on Friday.

"Andy gets asked every question about his body and the US Open, " Williams said after losing to top-seeded Bruno Soares and Nicole Melichar, 6-3, 4-6, 6-2.

Nadal downplayed the suggestion they had improved appreciably, describing their respective evolution as a zero-sum game in which each had added elements to his game to compensate for what age has taken away. He has been just terrific in this tournament.

So who wins Federer vs. Nadal?

"The longevity of Federer and Nadal has been a testament to their imagination. [.] One thing Nadal has clearly never had is an attitude problem so we await tomorrow with appetites newly whetted".

However, Federer further added that he will obviously analyze Nadal's game with the help of Seve and Ivan before coming into the match.

"He may need to, because as far as their current form goes, Nadal may have the edge". Federer and Nishikori went back-and-forth in the third set.
