Paleontologists find giant dinosaur bone in southwestern France”

The enormous bone - which weighs in at around half a tonne - was unearthed from a dinosaur fossil-rich dig site in the department of Charente south west France.

The femur bone measures a massive six feet long - taller than the average human!

Paleontologists said they discovered the bone of a large dinosaur at an excavation site in southwestern France in July.

The expert team's awesome French specimen was particularly well-preserved for a fossil of its size and long ago helped support the 50-60 ton weight of this gentle giant.

"This femur is huge!"

This is a noteworthy disclosure, Ronan Allain, a scientist at the National History Museum of Paris told Reuters. "This is rare for big pieces which tend to collapse in on themselves and fragment", Allain added. And in an exceptional state of conservation.

Alongside the thigh bone, volunteers with the National Museum of Natural History in Paris also uncovered a giant pelvis bone from the same layer of clay.

The two-meter long femur at the Angeac-Charente site is thought to have had a place with a sauropod, herbivorous dinosaurs with long necks and tails which were broad in the late Jurassic period, more than 140 million years prior.
