British Airways cancels some flights due to IT failure

British Airways cancels some flights due to IT failure”

"Airlines must adhere to strict safety procedures which means "technical issues" should be identified and prevented during routine checks and maintenance, so passengers severely affected by this IT glitch are clearly entitled to compensation".

One flight was cancelled at Edinburgh and Glasgow, with nine of 11 flights at Edinburgh delayed along with seven of the eight at Glasgow, all three at Aberdeen and the one flight at Inverness. The airline is also rebooking customers with other carriers.

At least 81 flights were canceled at Heathrow while at least 10 suffered the same fate at Gatwick Airport, according to BBC News.

Wayne Turner, who said he had a BA flight booked to Vienna from Heathrow, tweeted: "Was about to walk out the door, then received text of cancellation".

In 2017, a system failure at BA caused 672 cancellations over two days, costing the airline £80 million.

Today's chaos came around a fortnight after people missed flights or were forced to take off without their luggage at Heathrow when a check-in system went into meltdown.

British Airways faces further disruption as its pilots are threatening to strike over low pay.

"We have resolved the temporary systems issue from this morning which affected a number of our flights today".

"Our teams have been working tirelessly to get the vast majority of customers on their way, with most of our flights departing", he said. "All our customers were evacuated safely by our crew and met by the airport's emergency services", the spokesman told PEOPLE in a statement.

The airline is also set to be fined 183 million pounds ($222 million) by Britain's data regulator over a cyberattack on the airline's security systems previous year in which the personal data of up to 500,000 customers was stolen.

Stuart Jackson, a photography business manager, said he was stuck on a grounded plane at Heathrow and had missed his connecting flight, disrupting months of planning and wasting thousands of pounds.
