Huawei launches own operating system to replace Google's Android

Huawei launches own operating system to replace Google's Android”

In terms of hardware, the TVs include Huawei's Honghu 818 chipset, an octa-core processor which will process the images seen on screen. The first of these products will be the Honor Smart Screen, which is due to be unveiled on Saturday.

Update August 9th, 8:30AM ET: Added Huawei confirmation that the Honor Smart Screen will be the first product running HarmonyOS, and the company intends to continue using Android for the time being.

As a microkernel-based and distributed operating system designed for various devices and scenarios, the HarmonyOS will be compatible with other systems like Linux, Unix and Android, according to Huawei's Consumer Business Group CEO Richard Yu.

"It's not only a TV but it represents the future of TV", said Zhao Ming, Honor's president.

Rounding out the features will be a Smart Pop-up AI Camera that'll use artificial intelligence to track users' bodies, detect their posture, and recognize their faces. It also helps to seamlessly switch between large and small screen for 1080p video call irrespective of how far you go from the sensor.

Of course, the Honor Vision's primary function will be as a smart television, one that'll have access to various unspecified video and audio platforms, as well as Huawei Video. For that, they have also stated, for the home OS they need own Play Store Now.

Skyworth also recently announced its upgraded smart TV strategy, which allows users to send emails and display PPT files on TV.

The 55-inch smart screen features a 4K UHD display and is capable of reaching a 400-nit brightness with a very wide 178-degree viewing angle.

The standard Honor Vision with 16GB of onboard storage will be offered at 3499 Yuan (£415.65) while the Honor Vision Pro with 32GB of internal memory is priced at 4799 Yuan (£570.07). The TVs come with a three-sided bezel-less full-view design. The smart screen sports a 6.9mm full metal frame and a diamond-patterned rear, supporting an intelligent breathing light and TÜV Rheinland Eye Comfort Mode. In doing this, HONOR has set itself apart by showcasing its own bravery to do things differently and to take the steps needed to usher in the latest technologies and innovations for its customers.
