After acquiring kicker/punter from Ravens, Vikings cut LS McDermott”

Kaare Vedvik (6-3, 210), pronounced CORE-ee VED-vick, joins the Vikings via trade with the Baltimore Ravens for an undisclosed draft selection. He spent 2018 on the Baltimore Ravens non-football injury list after signing with the Ravens as an undrafted free agent. According to ESPN.com, a total of four teams called the Ravens over the weekend to inquire about possibly trading for Vedvik. Born in Stavanger, Norway, Vedvik attended high school in McPherson, Kansas as an exchange student for his junior year before returning to Norway for his senior year.

Aside from the Vikings choosing youth and a draft pick in Cutting, McDermott is also overcoming last season's injury in Los Angeles, where he lost the top of his left pinkie when it was lodged in a Rams player's helmet.

Minnesota now has veteran kicker Dan Bailey, who missed seven field-goal attempts last season with a career-worst 75% conversation rate, and punter Matt Wile. He's a very professional and mature kid.

Vedvik has kicked and punted for Baltimore, which was set at those positions with standouts Justin Tucker and Sam Koch. "I think anytime, if we indeed made a trade, it's to try and get better guys, wherever we do that", Zimmer said before the Vikings confirmed Sunday's roster moves. We have been having some issues with the snap, hold, and kick kind of thing, and having two long snappers I think is adding to that a little bit because timing is different. Bailey is one of the most accurate kickers in National Football League history, and in 14 games last season with Minnesota, was 30-of-31 on extra points and 21-of-28 on field goals. The holding we are working on quite a bit. As a senior in 2017, Vedvik averaged 44 yards per punt on 59 punts. According to ESPN.com, the deal marks the first time in more than 20 years that a team has given up that much compensation to land a kicker. "I think he should have got it closer to the end zone on that one".

"No, I don't think so". Vedvik, who had originally gone out with teammates that night, told the Ravens that he didn't remember how he ended up at the location where he was found.

"A lot more emotional than I thought it was going to be", Vedvik told the team's website about Thursday's game.

After an impressive preseason past year, Vedvik again showed impressive leg strength and accuracy. "Getting back on the field, it's a different feeling".
