Lana Del Rey donates proceeds from new single to mass shooting victims

Lana Del Rey donates proceeds from new single to mass shooting victims”

The gruesome shootings that occurred in El Paso and Dayton, Ohio is still the word on everyone's lips.

The singer released "Looking For America", a ballad that she wrote in the aftermath of the two mass shootings in the US last weekend, as well as a track for the soundtrack of Guillermo del Toro's new movie Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark.

Del Rey is no stranger to quick-fire releases.

At the time, she shared a studio version of 'Looking For America', and overnight she released the finished recording.

The track is now online in full - crafted alongside Jack Antonoff, it's a moving, incisive look at the blackened state of grief America finds itself locked in.

"One without the gun where the flag can freely fly/No bombs in the sky only fireworks when you and I collide".

The song is presumably included on Del Rey's next album, "Norman F-ing Rockwell", which is due at the end of this month and features extensive contributions from Antonoff; the pair performed four songs together, including two semi-serious country tracks, at his annual Ally Coalition benefit late previous year.

Have a look at her Instagram post and a listen to the new song down below.

She said she knows "I'm not a politician and I'm not trying to be so excuse me for having an opinion", but the shootings "really affected me on a cellular level".

Lana Del Rey's take on Donovan's classic "Season of the Witch", meanwhile, was recorded at the request of del Toro himself. The first, Looking For America, is a heartfelt song about the current goings on in the country while the other, Season of the Witch is a cover of the 1966 original song for Scary Stories To Tell In The Dark.
