The Hunt Release Canceled by Universal Pictures

The Hunt Release Canceled by Universal Pictures”

As of Friday evening, the official Twitter for production company Blumhouse has the trailer as its pinned tweet and hadn't yet responded to the criticism.

"The problem isn't guns".

I wrote here about the freaky movie The Hunt, in which liberal elites hunt and murder red state "deplorables". One of the hunted people, however, starts killing the hunters one by one, according to Rotten Tomatoes.

In 2016, then Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton said half the supporters of her Republican rival Trump belonged in a "basket of deplorables" of people who were racist, homophobic, sexist, xenophobic or Islamophobic.

Twelve strangers wake up in a clearing. While Universal claims Blum's movie was just a "satirical social thriller", the hard-left doesn't do satire. "They don't know they've been chosen-for a very specific purpose-The Hunt".

The move came several days after the studio suspended the ad campaign for the film, a gory, R-rated thriller that tells a tale of liberal "elites" hunting people in red states for sport. She turns the tables on the killers, picking them off, one by one, as she makes her way toward the mysterious woman (two-time Oscar® victor Hilary Swank) at the center of it all. According to the Hollywood Reporter, Universal pulled previews for the film across the board after ESPN chose to stop airing a spot that it had previously approved following the mass shootings in Gilroy, Calif. (July 28), El Paso, Texas (Aug. 3) and Dayton, Ohio (Aug. 4). However, the president did not identify the movie by name.

Universal's decision was made after Trump tweeted on Friday that "Liberal Hollywood is Racist at the highest level, and with great Anger and Hate!" They like to call themselves "Elite", but they are not Elite. (Presumably at some point down the line, the fact that the movie was "too unsafe to be released in theaters" could actually be used as a selling point.) They could also sell the rights to distribute to the movie to another studio, or even a streaming service like Netflix, who might jump at the chance to have a hot-button title that's sure to garner headlines and plenty of viewers. While there's nearly no chance anyone at Universal consulted with the USA president directly, the decision to shelve The Hunt comes nearly exactly one day after Trump turned his angry Twitter gaze on Hollywood.
