Cristiano Ronaldo: Juventus superstar explains why he surpasses the”

The 34-year-old has worked tirelessly throughout his career to be number one, forever spending time on the training ground and in the gym improving himself.

Both players have won five Ballon d'Or awards, lifted four Champions League titles each during their respective spells with Spanish giants Real Madrid and Barcelona, and are considered among the greatest players of all time.

The Portugal worldwide has also won league titles in England and Italy, as well as two major honours at global level: Euro 2016 and the inaugural Uefa Nations League.

He's a serial victor and very few players in the modern era compare, both in terms of individual and collective achievements.

Messi has been Ronaldo's nemesis for well over a decade now and in a recent interview Ronaldo explained the difference between them.

It was during his appearance in the series, that the ex-Real Madrid star pointed out a key difference between him and Lionel Messi, stating that he has won the Champions League with several teams. There aren't many players who won five Champions League trophies, so this is why I feel that I can identity myself with this tournament.

The Portuguese also noted that he was the Champions League top scorer for six seasons in a row, a feat his rival has not been able to achieve.

The debate over who is better - either now or indeed of all time - reached boiling point during the duo's shared time in Spain, with Real Madrid and Barcelona fans at odds over which of the world-class stars should be named the best.

"I appreciated him a lot as a person and when he became my coach, he was even better, I became an even bigger Zidane fan".

The debate as to who is the better footballer out of Messi and Ronaldo often divides opionions of football fans around the world, but the five-time UEFA Champions League victor has offered a more difinitive answer within the debate.

"Having that on your CV".

However, Ronaldo sits ahead of Messi on total Champions League winners medals, having secured an additional triumph in 2008 during his time with Premier League outfit Manchester United. 'I did it in England, I did it in Spain, I'm going to do it in Italy.

"So maybe that will be his argument when [he thinks] 'Am I better than Messi?'"
