Fortnite world champion Kyle 'Bugha' Giersdorf swatted during livestream”

Since winning the Fortnite tournament and walking away with an fantastic $3 million (£2.4 million), Bugha has already faced hackers targeting his social media accounts - but this is the first (and hopefully only) time he's been swatted.

The 16-year-old professional "Fortnite" player who won $3 million last month at the Fortnite World Cup just got "swatted" while streaming. Albert Werner told ESPN that the police department received a call from a person pretending to be Giersdorf.

"What if I just got bopped?" Armed police were called to his home, interrupting his stream, but fortunately no one was harmed in the incident.

'They come in with guns, bro, ' the gamer continues, sounding shaken. The teen could be heard speaking to his father in the background saying, "I've been swatted?"

Caught up in Fortnite's frantic pace, Miller and Walsh didn't register what Gierdorf had said, leaving them to wonder why he appeared to have abandoned them in the middle of a game.

The incident - while "scary" - hasn't deterred Giersdorf from doing his thing. Giersdorf told the other players he got lucky. "Jesus Christ, the internet's fucking insane". The entire incident lasted about 30 minutes, Cpl.

Swatting has had lethal consequences in the past. Police arrived at the address and, believing there to be an active shooter, killed the person who came to the door, believing he was reaching for a weapon.

Tyler R. Barriss pleaded guilty in November to 51 federal charges related to fake calls and threats including a December 28, 2017, call to police in Wichita, Kansas, during which Barriss falsely reported a shooting and hostage situation at a local address that resulted in the death of Andrew Finch, a 28-year-old father of two. In March, the caller, 25-year-old Tyler Barriss of Los Angeles, was sentenced to serve between 20 and 25 years in prison for the act.
