Liverpool will be without Alisson for the "next few weeks"

Liverpool will be without Alisson for the

Liverpool's medical staff continue to monitor the calf injury the Brazil worldwide sustained in the first half of the Premier League win against Norwich on Friday, but there are concerns that Alisson may be absent until late September or early October, a period that would force him out of the first Champions League group game.

Alisson suffered a calf injury while taking a goal kick during last Friday's opening 4-1 Premier League win over Norwich City.

Liverpool have been bare in the goalkeeping department, and needed to take Andy Lonergan, the former Preston and Middlesbrough man, on their United States tour due to Caoimhim Keheller (wrist) and Vitoslav Jaros (elbow ligaments) being injured.

"Not too cool. It's a calf injury which takes him obviously out for a while", he said, when asked for an update on the situation.

'So that's a very experienced solution but in the moment when Caoimhin is back then obviously Adrian is No.1, Caoimhin probably No.2 but we have to see how then he can have some games with the U23s or U21s [so] that he gets match practice as well'. It takes a while, it takes a couple weeks for sure, and we have to see.

Liverpool travel to Istanbul this week, to face Premier League rivals Chelsea in the Super Cup final. He last played for Middlesbrough and is now a free agent.

Liverpool need to quickly sign another goalkeeper to provide backup to Adrian as the Merseyside club have several key games coming up, and can't go into these games with just one fully fit keeper in the squad.

Sportsmail's exclusively revealed on Sunday that Alisson was looking at an eight-week stretch on the sidelines, after being assessed at the club's Melwood base.

"I think he's at that kind of age, that stage of his life and career that he can come in and slot in to the team pretty easy", the Dutch centre-back told reporters.

"We will be able to make good connections with him and I think a lot of the lads have made bonds with him already because he's such a good lad off the pitch".
