Recalled MacBook models are banned from all flights”

"The FAA is aware of the recalled batteries that are used in some Apple MacBook Pro laptops", the agency's spokesman said in an emailed statement on Monday, adding that the agency has "alerted airlines about the recall".

At the time of Apple's disclosure, the Cupertino company confirmed that users could get their battery replaced for free if they had an affected model.

The ban comes after Apple announced in June that it was recalling batteries used in some models, as they could overheat and present a safety risk.

The FAA has just reminded airlines of those guidelines which basically prohibits 2015 15-inch MacBooks from going on flights.

Apple put out a recall notice earlier this summer for a 2015 MacBook Pro model because its battery can overheat.

"RECALLED BATTERIES AND DEVICES: Lithium batteries recalled by the manufacturer/vendor must not be carried aboard aircraft or packed in baggage", the FAA states. It is "unclear what efforts will, if any", will be made at USA airports, the network added.

'Customer safety is always Apple's top priority, and we have voluntarily made a decision to replace affected batteries, free of charge, ' Apple said in a June statement. About 432,000 MacBook Pros with faulty batteries were sold in the US, according to a Canadian air safety notice cited by Bloomberg, while another 26,000 were sold in Canada. The affected units were sold between September 2015 and February 2017.

In a July 10 tweet following an incident involving a MacBook, the FAA said "recalled #batteries do not fly".

A MacBook laptop computer shown in 2016. In 2016, Samsung Electronics Co.'s Note 7 was banned from USA flights due to a fire hazard after the handset's battery exploded in multiple incidents.

USA aviation regulations prohibit carrying recalled batteries on flights unless they've been replaced or stored in special packaging that inhibits fires, according to FAA guidelines on hazardous materials.

If your computer is flagged but it has already went to Apple for fix, then you will have to show proof of the fix to the airline people and hope they let you in.
