Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) Assistant Commissioner Jane MacLatchy said the bodies believed to be the wanted teens were found in dense scrub in Manitoba, 1 kilometre from where "several items directly linked" to the fugitives were found, and 8 kilometres from where a grey Toyota RAV4 they were known to have been driving was found in flames on a highway. They'll have a lot of work ahead of them.

"We are speechless", he said in a text message, declining further comment. The majority of the search took place in Manitoba, where a burned auto reportedly used by them was found near the town of Gillam.

RCMP Manitoba tweeted that the discovery of items on the banks of the Nelson River had allowed officers to narrow the search and eventually locate the bodies. All three bodies were found in the province of British Columbia, on Canada's west coast.

Divers have been searching the Nelson river since Sunday after discovering a busted-up metal dingy washed up on the shore last week.

"To lose someone so young and vibrant, who was travelling the world and just enjoying life to the full, is devastating", the family said. However, RCMP say the search for the teens has come to an end.

Manitoba RCMP confirmed on August 7 that officials had located bodies believed to be Schmegelsky and McLeod during a foot search of the area, approximately 8 km away from where the burnt vehicle was located last month, near Fox Lake Cree Nation.

On July 24 the RCMP named the two teenagers as suspects in the three murders.

"We were describing it over the last couple of weeks as being some pretty dense bush and some pretty remarkable terrain - in my opinion that's nearly an understatement", said Manaigre, who participated in police searches after the bodies were found.

RCMP officials have said there is "significant evidence" linking the two crime scenes but have declined to elaborate.

"Our current belief [is that there] was nothing that links our victims together".

Kam Mcleod and Bryer Schmegelsky are still subjects of a Canada wide manhunt as suspects in northern B.C. murders. The longer the time frame, the greater the likelihood that the bodies may have come into contact with wildlife, Fowler said.

Another survival expert also pointed out that the pair was facing many dangers in that area.

The couple had met at a hostel in Croatia and their romance blossomed as they adventured across the U.S., Mexico, Peru and elsewhere, the woman's older brother said.

In an interview last month with the Canadian Press as the manhunt ramped up, Schmegelsky's father said his son was deeply troubled and had never recovered from his parents' divorce in 2005.

Fowler said it's likely that investigators have canvassed the suspects' family, friends and social media accounts and are now focused on retracing the steps they may have taken in recent weeks to see if anything might have been discarded along the way.

"I'm so sorry all of this had to happen".
