Chandrayaan 2: Odisha Student To Watch Moon Landing With PM Modi”

The next lunar-bound orbit manoeuvre is scheduled on September 1, between 6 to 7 p.m. It was done using the onboard propulsion system.

The manoeuvre has moved Chandrayaan 2 from its current 179 x 1411 km (nearest x farthest distance) elliptical orbit to a near-circular orbit of 124 x 164 km and the duration of the manoeuvre was 1155 seconds (19.25 minutes).

All spacecraft parameters are normal, the Bengaluru headquartered space agency said after the maneuver on the spacecraft.

A statement released by ISRO read, "Lunar Orbit Insertion (LOI) manoeuvre was completed successfully today (August 20, 2019) at 0902 hrs IST as planned, using the onboard propulsion system". The last manoeuvre is now on September 1 when Chandrayaan-2 will be put in the circular 100km x 100km orbit.

Tejashwini Gajurel a student of class VIII of Kendriya Vidyalaya, NERIST, Nirjuli has been selected to join the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi for witnessing the moon landing of Chandrayaan-2, live at the ISRO Bengaluru, Karnataka on 7th September 2019.

The Chandrayaan-2 satellite had began its journey towards the moon leaving the earth's orbit in the dark hours on August 14, after a crucial Trans Lunar Insertion manoeuvre by ISRO to place the spacecraft on "Lunar Transfer Trajectory". This is where the orbiter would finally settle and start its year-long exploration of the lunar exosphere and surface. However, the separation of Vikram lander and its final descent will be new to us. The 27-kg rover, which is loaded with two payloads and has images of Tricolour and Isro logo embossed on it, will roll out on the lunar surface at a speed of 1cm per second.
