Maruti To Halt Production For Two Days At Gurgaon, Manesar Plants”

The company said that both days will be observed as 'no production days'. The company, which makes one in two of the passenger vehicles in the country, told the Bombay Stock Exchange in its regulatory filing that the passenger vehicle manufacturing operations at two of its plants in Gurugram and Manesar in Haryana will remain shut for two days on 7 and 9 September.

At 1236 hrs, Maruti Suzuki India was quoting at Rs 5,875.95, down Rs 173.80, or 2.87 percent on the BSE. Along with other auto makers in India, Maruti has been cutting output in the recent months.

The trend continued in August, with Rajan Wadhera, president, SIAM (Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers), saying, "The sales report coming out from various companies for the month of August 2019 has been very dismal with over 30 per cent erosion of sales for passenger vehicles". The company has already cut its production for seven straight months including in August 2019. Tata Motors reported a 49 per cent slump in its domestic sales on a year-on-year basis at 29,140 units. Sales of mini cars comprising Alto and WagonR stood at 10,123 units as compared to 35,895 units in the same month a year ago, down 71.8 per cent.

However, sales of utility vehicles, including Vitara Brezza, S-Cross and Ertiga, rose 3.1% at 18,522 units as compared to 17,971 in the year-ago month, MSI said.

In the "mini and compact" segment, the company manufactured only 80,909 vehicles against 122,824 in August 2018.
