Now Facebook will remove like counts feature on its platform

Now Facebook will remove like counts feature on its platform”

It's not totally out of character for Facebook to do away with the Like feature, since another of its apps, Instagram, is already testing a similar "like-less" feature in a number of countries, which Wong discovered as well. Facebook is now discontinuing this Like Count feature.

Social platforms are paying more attention to the benefits - or lack thereof - attached to vanity metrics.

"I observed that Facebook has recently begun prototyping this hidden like/reaction count feature in their Android app by reverse-engineering the app and playing with the code underneath", wrote Wong. Last week, YouTube said it was beginning to phase out exact counts for public-facing subscriber numbers on channels with 1,000 or more followers.

Before Facebook starts running trials of the new feature, there's no way of telling if it will be a success. This code is about to delete Facebook post count.

Influencers will have to craft more valuable content, no longer able to rely on "Likes" to catch the attention of a brand.

As mentioned before, Instagram trialled such a move, by hiding the number of likes on certain posts a couple of years ago. However, the Like Count Hide feature in Instagram is not yet live in India. However, it looks like Facebook is also thinking about doing the same thing and removing all likes from the social media platform.

The prospect is likely being explored in a bid to help prevent envy, influence, and self-censorship among the users who frequent the platform. There have been some studies about the negative effect this can have on a person's self-esteem and mental health not to mention the rise of the influencer culture on social media which isn't always based on authenticity.

The likes and reactions could soon be history as we know them in several of the leading social networks that are used daily by billions of people around the world. That's all problematic for Fb's advert views.
