'Face/Off' reboot back on for Paramount

'Face/Off' reboot back on for Paramount”

The 1997 action movie "Face/Off", which starred John Travolta and Nicolas Cage, is getting a reboot. Paramount has also picked Oren Uziel to pen the script. Uziel was the writer behind the fun Mortal Kombat: Rebirth web film as well as 22 Jump Street, but he also gave us the awful The Cloverfield Paradox, Freaks of Nature, and the upcoming Sonic the Hedgehog so no telling which way this one could go in terms of quality.

Aside from 22 Jump Street, Uziel is also known for films such as The Cloverfield Paradox and the upcomingSonic the Hedgehog.

As Archer tries to find out where a bomb is located in a city by pretending to be Troy, Troy wakes up from a coma and undergoes his own high-experimental face and voice transplant to become Archer. Archer must now break out of prison and expose what Troy has done, as Troy takes over Archer's personal and professional life.

Obviously new characters will be going through face trading for the reboot, but given that the term "reboot" has a loose connotation nowadays, it's unclear if the new Face/Off would exist in the same continuity as the original or be completely separate.

David Permut, who served as a producer on the original film and was nominated for an Oscar on his work with Mel Gibson's Hacksaw Ridge, will executive produce the reboot. Hitting theaters in June 1997, Face/Off raked in $245.7 million worldwide against a reported $80 million budget.
