Emiratis and school children gathered at the Mohammed Bin Rashid Space Centre as Hazzaa al-Mansoori, 35, blasted into space accompanied by Russia's Oleg Skripochka and NASA astronaut Jessica Meir onboard a Soyuz rocket from Baikonur in Kazakhstan.

Meir, a flight engineer and co-pilot of the Soyuz MS-15 spacecraft, says she wanted to be an astronaut since she was 5 and hopes to get the opportunity to go on a spacewalk.

Writing on Twitter before the launch, Mansoori said he was "filled with this indescribable feeling of glory and awe".

"Today I carry the dreams and ambition of my country to a whole new dimension".

"I'm really looking forward to to the opportunity to go out the hatch", Meir said in a recent interview.

On 12 April 2011, Skripochka was awarded the titles of Hero of the Russian Federation and Pilot-Cosmonaut of the Russian Federation for courage and heroism in the implementation of long-duration space flight on the International Space Station.

He is due to head back to Earth on 3rd October.

H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, and Chairman of the Mohammed Bin Rashid Space Centre, who witnessed the launch live from MBRSC, dedicated this historic achievement to His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE; His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai; and His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces.

"As a fighter pilot I already prayed in my airplane", he mentioned, explaining that he had expertise of prayers at excessive tempo.

Mansoori plans to conduct experiments and said he would take Emirati food with him to share with the crew, who for a brief of time will number nine at the ISS.

"We restful deserve to work on our Arabic", she joked.

Meir and Skripochka plan to stay for more than six months.

Russian Orthodox priests blessed the spacecraft ahead of the launch, in a traditional prayer service often held before Russian rocket launches. Meir, who grew up in Caribou, will launch September 25 for a mission on the International Space Station. Two of the new travelers - NASA's Meir and Russia's Skripochka - are part of the upcoming Expedition 61 mission, and will replace NASA's Nick Hague and Alexey Ovchinin of Roscosmos, who are scheduled to depart the ISS next week.

He said the trip was a milestone for his country and the Arab world.

Russian Federation is resolved to keep its position as a leader of the space industry, particularly for manned space flights.
