Tammy Abraham reveals England plan to walk off pitch over racist abuse

Tammy Abraham reveals England plan to walk off pitch over racist abuse”

Some Bulgarian supporters have demonstrated racist behavior in two matches in June and have been punished by UEFA with a partially closed stadium for its next two worldwide matches, including for this match against the Three Lions. Don't isolate one person.

"Harry Kane said that if it happens [racist abuse] and we're not happy with it, we speak to the player and if he's not happy, we all come off the pitch together", said Abraham, as per the Mirror.

A second incident of racism heard by the referee or reported to him/her will lead to the official taking the teams off the pitch, and a further tannoy warning made to the crowd that the game may be abandoned if the abuse persists. No referee has called a halt to a game, however, since the guidelines were put in place in 2017. Harry did ask the question about instead of going through the three steps - if we decide that we want to stop the game, no matter what the score is - if we're not happy as a team we'll decide whether or not to stay on the pitch.

"[The meeting] was just about, if it does happen, which unfortunately it does sometimes, what we need to do and what the protocol is", Abraham's Chelsea teammate and new squad member Fikayo Tomori said.

UEFA ordered the partial closure of Bulgaria's national stadium after racist behaviour by their fans in Euro 2020 qualifiers with the Czechs and Kosovo in June.

England is facing its own problems with abuse from the stands this year, with Aston Villa's Premier League game against Norwich City last weekend marred by racism.

The Bulgarian Football Union was fined €40,000 by Uefa for "discriminatory" chanting and lighting and throwing of fireworks. "Some games you would be playing bad and I'd think, "no it's never going to happen", but you have to keep that belief there and here I am".

Abraham suffered racial abuse online earlier this season, the 22-year-old targeted by trolls after missing a penalty in the Super Cup shoot-out defeat to Liverpool.

"It is outrageous really that it is still going on in this day and age but I think it is a balancing act in your response, whether you feed into it or not and give them the satisfaction", he said.

"But whoever doesn't have my personality might be affected more".

"I think as long as we are one and united that is the main thing".

But he revealed he spoke to Chelsea team-mate Callum Hudson-Odoi, who was one of the individuals who had to deal with the situation.

"No-one wants to see that. He's a strong character, he played well".
