Death Toll In Tehran Attack Rises; Iranian Official Calls US Response 'Repugnant'

Death Toll In Tehran Attack Rises; Iranian Official Calls US Response 'Repugnant'”

Iranian authorities have arrested seven suspects for supporting the Islamic State-claimed dual attacks that killed 17 people in Tehran.

IS has long vowed to attack Iran because the country had deployed military advisers and support to both Syria and Iraq in their fights against the extremist group. Iranian President Hassan Rouhani, who favours opening up to the world, has condemned the attacks, without pointing a finger at any country.

Other members of the public accused Saudi Arabia and Iran's long-time foe, the United States, of backing the attacks. He concludes by threatening the royal family of Saudi Arabia and promises, "after Iran, it will be your turn".

Burials were held in the provinces for the two others killed when gunmen and suicide bombers stormed Tehran s parliament complex and the shrine of revolutionary leader Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini.

Khamenei said Iran had no intention of normalising ties with the United States."The American government is against an independent Iran".

The Intelligence Ministry said in a statement on Friday that 41 elements of the Wahhabi Daesh terrorist group had been identified and arrested before they could manage to conduct any act of terror.

Intelligence Minister Mahmoud Alavi told IRNA on Thursday that it is clear Saudi Arabia supports terrorist groups but it is too soon to say whether it was involved in the Parliament and mausoleum strikes.

On Friday, the US embassy in Saudi Arabia issued a security notice to USA citizens recommending that they "exercise caution in places frequented by foreigners due to the continuing risk of terrorist attacks. across the Kingdom". Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad-Zarif called it "repugnant" on Twitter and said the Iranian people "reject" the statement.

Since Trump took office in January, relations between Washington and Tehran have worsened.

The reproduction of the story/photograph in any form will be liable for legal action. At a time when regional tensions are at a historic high with the ongoing Qatar crisis, the prospect of an Iranian retaliation through the IRGC or one of its Shiite allies is petrifying, as the consequences for Iran and the region would be unfathomable.

The White House released a statement from Trump condemning the terrorist attacks in Tehran and offering condolences, but also implying that Iran is itself a sponsor of terrorism.

"Allah permitting, this is the first brigade that was established (in Iran) but it will not be the last", one said, as the group sat masked in a circle with their weapons.

Those accusations will resonate among Iranians after Wednesday's violence, according to Amir Handjani, a nonresident fellow at the Atlantic Council based in Dubai.

The Iran's Revolutionary Guards had blamed Saudi Arabia for Wednesday's attacks.

Saudi deputy crown prince Mohammed bin Salman talked about efforts to "counter terrorism and extremism" in a phone call with US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson yesterday.
