Key takeaways from Attorney General Sessions' testimony

Whether that hearing will be public or closed is not yet known. He said he and Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein had long discussed their concerns with Comey's job performance. In the Tuesday primaries, Northam defeated his slightly more liberal challenger, former Rep. Tom Perriello, while Gillespie, a former chairman of the Republican National Committee, had a narrow victory over Corey Stewart, who served as President Trump's state campaign chairman.

"Then there's been allegations publicly of meetings that go beyond the meetings that he's declared he already had with representatives of Russian government, that'll come up", Reed said on Sunday.

Trump kept the heat on Comey yesterday, accusing him of "cowardly" leaks and predicting many more.

In a testimony before the Senate Intelligence Committee last week, Comey raised red flags when he said that prior to Sessions' recusal, the FBI was aware of information that would have made his continued involvement in the Russian Federation investigation "problematic".

"You're impeding this investigation", he said.

Schumer invited Trump to testify under oath before the Senate and he urged Trump to produce any tapes of his conversations with Comey.

Bharara said on Sunday that Trump called him twice after the November election "ostensibly just to shoot the breeze".

Speaking on ABC News' "This Week" in his first televised interview since Trump fired him in March as the top federal prosecutor in Manhattan, Bharara said he believed Trump's calls to him violated the usual boundaries between the executive branch and independent criminal investigators.

However, he said he thought there was "absolutely evidence to begin a case" into the matter.

Democratic Sen. Ron Wyden of OR, also a member of the intelligence panel, sent a letter to panel Chairman Richard Burr of North Carolina and Warner asking for the hearing to be open. Richard Burr, R-N.C., listen on Capitol Hill in Washington, Tuesday, June 13, 2017, as Attorney General Jeff Sessions testified about his role in the firing of FBI Director James Comey and the investigation into contacts between Trump campaign associates and Russian Federation. Feinstein said she was especially concerned after National Intelligence Director Dan Coats and National Security Agency Director Michael Rogers refused to answer questions from the intelligence committee about possible undue influence by Trump.

"There's an unpredictability. He projects an instability", Feinstein said.

Russian Federation has denied interfering in the US election.

Sen. Tom Cotton, R-Ark., compared Sessions' situation to science fiction, beginning his line of questioning by asking the attorney general if he liked spy movies. Feinstein said the Judiciary Committee should investigate.

The attorney general stepped aside from the Justice Department probe into Russian meddling in the campaign on March 2, the day after The Washington Post reported on two previously undisclosed meetings with Russian Ambassador Sergey Kislyak.

Comey's decision to announce a year ago that Clinton would not be prosecuted over her emails was a "usurpation" of the Justice Department's authority, Sessions said.

Collins and Feinstein spoke on CNN's "State of the Union and Lankford and Schumer appeared on CBS' "Face the Nation".
