California mayor hopes local has winning ticket”

Lottery officials said one winning ticket was sold in Riverside County, though it's not clear if more than one ticket matched all five numbers plus the Powerball.

Alberre says he and his father own the store in Sun City, originally developed as a retirement community and now part of the city of Menifee.

Powerball spokesman Randy Miller says the location where the winning ticket was sold was not immediately available.

"We're so blessed for this to happen", said Matthew Alberee, who owns the store with his dad. The victor has a year to come forward and claim the prize, and can choose to cash in a prize of $279.1 million or to receive the full amount in installments over 29 years.

The lucky numbers are 20-26-32-38-58, and the Powerball number is 3.

"We're hoping they're a parishioner and they'll bring us a check tomorrow", said Blais, the president of the Sun City Civic Association's board.

The jackpot is the tenth biggest in USA history and has odds of winning that are one in 292 million.

The winning ticket had Sun City residents abuzz.

But Alberre said he has no idea which customer bought the ticket with all six numbers in Saturday night's drawing of the multi-state Powerball lottery.

The massive jackpot is the seventh in the list of the largest awarded United States lottery prizes of all time - a list that includes Mega Millions and Powerball winnings, the U.S.'s two largest games. The cash prize would be $273.1 million. Those figures are just the amounts withheld up front; your final tax burden is likely to be even higher.

The odds of winning Powerball are now 1 in 292 million, or 0.0000003%.
