Rafael Nadal: French Open title 'more special' after tough times for Mallorcan

Rafael Nadal: French Open title 'more special' after tough times for Mallorcan”

The Spaniard's only loss came in Rome to Austrian Dominic Thiem, a defeat he more than avenged during a routine semi-final victory at Roland Garros last Friday.

Rafael Nadal has become the first player in the Open era to win ten titles at the same Grand Slam.

Nadal's "La Decima" is his 15th Grand Slam overall, just three short of Roger Federer's 18 titles and the Swiss master wasted no time in congratulating the Spaniard on his phenomenal achievement.

"I am not sure I will meet any player who can do better than me and win the French Open titles a couple of times".

Sport is a sweaty business, and playing sustained tennis at the level that Rafael Nadal does, day after day, generating power every serve, requires energy.

The 32-year-old Swiss had only one break point, early on, and then never threatened Nadal and he blamed himself for being too hesitant.

The top-ranked Murray has improved over the past two weeks, shaking off a cold to reach the semifinals, where he lost 6-7 (6), 6-3, 5-7, 7-6 (3), 6-1 to third-seeded Stan Wawrinka on Friday.

"Simply incredible, Rafa #10 #RG17 #VamosRafa #justdoit", tweeted Federer, who missed the French Open, including the whole clay-court season, to shift his focus entirely on the grass-court season ahead with Wimbledon being his top priority. When you haven't been playing loads over four, four-and-a-half hours, that can catch up to you a little bit.

"I will have to play my best tennis". Emotions overwhelmed Nadal as he soaked up the glory of his tenth French Open victory.

Since 1877, Nadal is the only tennis star who has won at least one Grand Slam title for 10 consecutive years. He will later participate in the Halle Open before Wimbledon begins on July 3. It was the 22nd Slam finale for Nadal; just the fourth for Wawrinka, the oldest man in the championship match in 44 years.

After being ousted in five sets by rival Roger Federer at the Australian Open, the Spaniard has been nearly unstoppable.

Nadal now turns his attention to Wimbledon. If you have no doubts, then you are very arrogant.

"The nerves, the adrenaline I feel when I play on this court, it is impossible to compare ... it is the most important event in my career, to win again here is impossible to describe", he said.

"I've had a great season so far and I am happy to have already qualified for London", the Spaniard told the ATP website. The only thing that I know is I am playing well now.
