Student Released By North Korea Arrives In Ohio”

U.S and North Korean officials say Rodman had nothing to do with the release Tuesday of imprisoned American student Otto Warmbier. "Arrangements were made for Warmbier to leave North Korea". He is on medevac flight on his way home. Sadly, he is in a coma and we have been told he has been in that condition since March of 2016. "We expect there will be a detailed description of the release through the diplomatic channel (with the US)", Lee Duk-haeng, spokesman at the Ministry of Unification, said in a press briefing. According to Warmbier's parents, their son was medically evacuated from North Korea in a coma, which he has reportedly been in for over a year after falling ill to botulism and then being given a sleeping pill.

The Warmbier family released a statement Tuesday saying they are grateful their son will finally be home with the people who love him.

Warmbier was visiting North Korea as part of a tourist group arranged by Young Pioneer Tours, based in Xian, China.

Authorities said they had footage of him trying to steal a banner with a political slogan at his hotel.

In 2014, Pyongyang released Korean-American missionary Kenneth Bae, who had been arrested for hostile acts against the DPRK and was serving a 15-year hard labor sentence.

Warmbier was found guilty and sentenced in March 2016 to 15 years hard labor. He was seen publically for the last time at that moment. "Otto should have been released from the start", said US Sen.

"It's great knowing that he is going to be back and safe in his own community with his family", fellow Wyoming lacrosse player Beau Brewer said.

"Fred, Cindy, and the Warmbier family have been remarkably strong throughout this ordeal".

Warmbier's release fell on the same day as former National Basketball Association star Dennis Rodman's arrival in Pyongyang for unknown reasons, his fifth known visit to the North.

A White House official said Trump had instructed Tillerson to take all appropriate measures to secure the release of Americans held in North Korea. James Bernat, a coma expert at the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in New Hampshire, told the Washington Post that the probability of a person recovering from a coma or vegetative state depends heavily on how long the condition has lasted. Let me reiterate this: "We strongly, strongly suggest that Americans do not go to North Korea".

Thomas Shannon, U.S. undersecretary of state for political affairs, said in Seoul that Joseph Yun - the U.S. special representative for North Korea policy, in charge of dealing with the country's nuclear and missile programs - was behind Tuesday's evacuation of Otto Warmbier.

During a government-arranged news conference in Pyongyang, which was held a month before the ruling was handed down, a tearful Warmbier pleaded for his release, saying he stole the banner because a member of his church offered to buy him a used auto in exchange. "Since we also have our citizens detained in the North. we are putting pressure on the North to free them through various channels", he said, vowing "utmost efforts".

But deplaning in North Korea wearing a T-shirt emblazoned with made it clear that his earlier "basketball diplomacy" ventures with North Korea have now morphed into what some internet wags described as "weed diplomacy".

Nearly immediately on taking office in January, Trump and his team - having been briefed by the outgoing president Barack Obama - declared the North's attempts to build, test and arm a nuclear-capable ballistic missile as Washington's biggest threat. Experts say each launch gets the country closer to its stated goal of developing a nuclear-armed weapon capable of reaching the United States.

Warmbier, a University of Virginia undergraduate, was convicted and sentenced in a one-hour trial in North Korea's Supreme Court in March 2016.

He tearfully confessed to being "lured by the United States administration to commit a crime in this country".

He was met by North Korean Vice Minister of Sports Son Kwang Ho.

When they spoke to CNN on May 3, they said they had not seen or heard from Otto since his supposed confession.
