Trump '100%' willing to testify on Comey

WILLIAM BRANGHAM: The president publicly broke his silence about James Comey's testimony today in a Rose Garden news conference with Klaus Iohannis, the president of Romania.

Mr Trump denied having asked for Mr Comey's loyalty or for an inquiry into his former national security adviser to be dropped. "He's a leaker", Trump said of Comey. "I'm not going to say I want you to pledge allegiance".

President Donald Trump said Friday he is willing to testify under oath about his interactions with former FBI Director James Comey and accused the latter of being untruthful during his testimony in Capitol Hill on Thursday.

"I don't think it's for me to say whether the conversation I had with the president was an effort to obstruct", Comey testified.

Donald Trump has said he was "100 per cent" willing to testify over his conversations with James Comey after the sacked Federal Bureau of Investigation chief made explosive revelations to Congress, alleging that the President tried to stop a probe into the Russian interference in the USA polls.

The committee also sent a letter to White House Counsel Don McGahn asking that he inform the committee whether the White House has ever had any recordings or memos of Comey's conversations with Trump.

But Trump refused to answer. I'm not going to say I want you to pledge allegiance.

Comey leaked his own memos to the press (well, technically, he asked his friend, Columbia Law Professor Daniel Richman to do it).

"I can definitively say that the president is not a liar, and frankly I'm insulted by that question", Sanders said at a White House press briefing.

US President Donald Trump says he is "100%" willing to speak under oath about his conversations with ex-FBI chief James Comey.

Opposition Democrats have said that the leaks occurred after Comey was sacked and no longer a government official.

The FBI is investigating links between associates of Trump during last year's campaign and Russians who sought to influence the election by hacking Democrats.

But a day after the closely watched hearing, Trump struck back with an early morning tweet: "Wow, Comey is a leaker".

Trump did not explain why he believes that Comey has leaked additional information.

The claim of vindication also glosses over Comey's claims that Trump pressured him, as FBI director, to drop an investigation into Flynn.

The president and his aides backed other parts of Comey's testimony, however, including portions where the then-FBI director told the president he was not personally under investigation over Russian Federation.
