Malik Monk says he'd be good fit for Knicks' triangle offense

Malik Monk says he'd be good fit for Knicks' triangle offense”

Malik Monk was the star Thursday on what was a busy day of group workouts in the morning followed by a private session with the Kentucky product in the afternoon.

Monk has now worked out for the Sixers (No. 3 pick), Phoenix (4), Orlando (6) and the Knicks (8), and says he's done with workouts.

In regards to that aforementioned personality of his, Monk remains unsure where he'll be drafted, knowing he could go anywhere in the top 10 but likely between 6-10.

"I think I did a pretty good job", Monk said.

"It was insane just seeing them there watching me because I've seen him with Kobe and Jordan and great players like that", said Monk, who averaged 19.8 points, 2.5 rebounds and 2.3 assists last season at Kentucky, shooting 40 percent from beyond the arc. The Knicks would probably like to re-sign Holiday but they will undoubtedly have competition for the 28-year-old, who is a solid defender and knocked down 36 percent of his 3-point attempts last year. In February, two days after scoring 37 points against Georgia (which at the time was the second highest single-game total by a freshman in program history), Monk scored 33 points against Florida, including 30 in the second half alone.

But shooting is what he's known for. But Sixers executive Bryan Colangelo has said that Philadelphia will consider trading the pick - presumably for a pick lower in the first round and other assets.

But his shooting ability is exactly what the 76ers need.

"I think I fit great everywhere I worked out at", Monk said. They need a shooter like this.

The media saw the last 15 minutes of Monk's workout.

"It's insane because I [saw] Ben play in the EYBL and I watched Embiid with Kansas, so seeing them with Kansas is just insane for me", Monk said. He handled the ball in pick "n" roll situations and penetrated the lane for floaters. Monk said he was born with a broken right collarbone, which forced him to learn the use of his left hand in addition to his right shooting hand.

Sixers' Vice President of Basketball Administration Brandon Williams said "there is hope you can grow him, at his size he has to be a combo". Williams said. "We wanted to see him challenged by shot blockers, trying to simulate that a little bit". He showed defense. We also want to see how creative he is with the dribble.

When Monk visited with the Knicks, he said it was "crazy" having Jackson evaluating him since he's has coached some all-time great players. I think I'd be a flawless fit. "I can play on the ball, off the ball". Not that many people have seen my passing abilities.

As for Monk, he said his workous in both Philadelphia and NY went well. His 104 three-point field goals led the conference in his one and only season at Kentucky. Some elite draft prospects elect not to work out for teams.
