Uber chief Travis Kalanick to face charges

Uber chief Travis Kalanick to face charges”

While there seems to be no end to controversies at Uber, the reports on it obtaining and keeping the medical record of the Delhi rape survivor seems to have been the nail in the coffin. The outside lawyers made no recommendation about Kalanick. In 2014 Michael reportedly suggested at a private dinner in NY that Uber should dig up dirt on journalists that criticize the company, which of course sparked outrage from journalists.

After a tumultuous few weeks for Uber, we're finally seeing real changes at the company. His resignation would add to a long line of Uber executives and staff exiting the company during what's been a period of seemingly never-ending turmoil.

The Wall Street Journal reports that chief business officer Emil Michael plans to resign as early as Monday.

More over in the previous year or so, Mr Kalanick has earned a status as an uncompromising leader and was condemned heavily after being caught on video berating an Uber driver. As such, it could well be a few days before the board announces a deision on that topic.

Uber had hired law firm Perkins Coie to look into the complaints, after a former employee alleged sexual harassment and sexism at the company in a blogpost in February 2017.

Incidentally, the idea for the time-off was Kalanick's, who proposed it after the accident that took his mother's life.

Uber brought in Holder earlier this year to lead an investigation into sexual harassment and workplace culture at the ride-hailing startup.

Michael's departure was reportedly one of the key recommendations from an investigation into Uber's business practices conducted by Eric Holder, the former US Attorney General.

The board also discussed a potential leave of absence for CEO Travis Kalanick.

The recommendations will be released to employees Tuesday, according to the board representative.

In the past four months, Uber has lost a president and the heads of its autonomous driving unit, finance, mapping, policy, software engineering, and product and growth. This move essentially kills off Kalanick's close friend and ally, and will destabilise the leadership at Uber, at least in the short term. Neither Kalanick nor Holder's law firm, Covington & Burling, responded to requests for comment.

Multiple media outlets reported on Sunday that the board was considering a leave of absence for Mr Kalanick.

The changes would also further destabilise the leadership at Uber, which has upended the transportation industry worldwide.
