Philadelphia 76ers looking to make deal with Boston Celtics for top pick

Philadelphia 76ers looking to make deal with Boston Celtics for top pick”

The 76ers, who own the No. 3 overall selection in Thursday night's NBA Draft to the Lakers' No. 2, had worked out Malik Monk.

According to an ESPN report, the Celtics and Sixers are in heavy talks for a trade involving the first and third National Basketball Association draft picks.

As great as this deal may sound- how does it actually benefit the 76ers? The Celtics would likely receive a package including the Sixers' pick this season, which falls at number three, and future first round picks.

To be clear, the Celtics actually gave up a reasonable amount in both trades.

The Celtics' intentions are unclear, but some have suggested that Boston might not be sold on Washington point guard Markelle Fultz and actually might prefer Kansas' Josh Jackson. Not to mention, this would also be former number one pick, Simmons, first season as well.

Celtics GM Danny Ainge isn't stupid. If Boston gets anything more than that, the Celtics will win another trade that involves draft picks.

The 76ers would have to give up more than their No. 3 overall pick. Do the Celtics need another power forward?

Philadelphia could have a core group of Fultz, Simmons, and Joel Embiid, which could be a prominent trio for years. Of course, they'll all have to stay healthy.

ESPN's Zach Lowe and Marc Stein reported Friday evening that the Celtics and 76ers have held "serious talks" about a potential trade that would center around the top selection in next week's draft.

This isn't the NFL. Jackson is only 20 years old, but he is the only top prospect in the draft with something this concerning in his background.

"You really get to know them as people more than you would've had chances to otherwise", Rozman said.

Fultz didn't have to work out for anyone at all, and some consensus No. 1 picks choose to work out only for the top team. Probably not, no. But the Sixers don't have the No. 1 pick next year. Gomes had been outstanding in his first two years in Boston as a floor-stretching power forward. That includes potentially trading the pick.

Los Angeles Lakers president Magic Johnson is reportedly "in love with Markelle Fultz" and will try to move up to the No. 1 slot ahead of Thursday's NBA Draft.
