US Open Day One

US Open Day One”

The U.S. Open is supposed to be the toughest test in golf, but the best players in the world made Erin Hills look like anything but during Thursday's first round.

The incident happened at around 11.55am with the opening round of the season's second major under way at Erin Hills.

"Definitely not U.S. Open-like", Marc Leishman said. For the first time since the Official World Golf Ranking began in 1986, Nos.

Three more birdies on the his inward nine took him to seven under.

Paul Casey was alone in third at 7 under after a 71 in the second round.

A 94-year-old spectator has died at the U.S. Open.

Washington County Sheriff Dale Schmidt told the United States Golf Association he appeared to die of natural causes. With his famous father on the bag, Love IV made his pro debut, shooting a 1-under 71 at the U.S. Open to kick off his pro career.

Jason Day and Adam Scott will go back to the drawing board after becoming high-profile casualties of a second-round collapse from the Australian contingent at the US Open.

Woods, who recently underwent his fourth back surgery, has not played a PGA Tour event since January at Torrey Pines, the site of the last of his 14 major wins in 2008.

It sounds as if Erin Hills is becoming more challenging with each passing minute. Casting aside his own advice, he chose to stay for another day at the U.S. Open.

"Really?" an incredulous McIlroy said.

"I couldn't get comfortable over the putter".

Harris English is 4 under after a second-round 69. He says the greens on his last few holes "were firming up".

The world's top-six players hit a combined score of 21-over-par yesterday and Jordan Spieth's one-over-par 73 was the best any of them could muster.

With Johnson, McIlroy and Day misfiring, it was left to a clutch of unheralded players to dominate the upper reaches of the leaderboard.

Davis Love III is out on the course at Erin Hills this week, just not in the role you'd expect.

It was super soft at Congressional in 2011 when McIlroy set the 54-hole record (199) and 72-hole record (268) in an eight-shot victory. But then he three-putted from long range on the 13th and the 14th, and lost all hope when he missed the green on the 17th while going after the flag.

Another U.S. Open first for Xander Schauffele. This one he'd rather forget.

Casey carded an eagle and six birdies for a six-under-par 66 while Schauffele, the 23-year-old world number 352 also carded a 66. Later, a long put for bogey rolled just right of the hole before he tapped in. Fowler tees off in the afternoon.

But the Englishman now has a share of the lead at the U.S. Open. "I'm a Rickie Fowler fan and the golf he proposed this morning was attractive".

Fowler wasted no time in exploiting the conditions after teeing off on the 10th, rattling off four quick birdies to be four under. But with his 5-under 67 on Thursday, he stands ready to make a run for the U.S. Open title this weekend.

OK, this is his first U.S. Open. He was 100 feet away for birdie on No. 6 and burned the edge of the cup on that one, except that it ran by some 7 feet and he three-putted for bogey.

Casey chopped his way to an 8 on the par-5 14th and shot 38 on the back nine.

"Just really bad tee shots which led to obviously not being able to give myself many looks for birdies".

Here comes Si Woo Kim. The last major he played in was the 2015 PGA Championship. He is 3 under for the tournament.

"You don't get many rounds at the U.S. Open that are stress-free", said Fowler, who got his round off to a flying start with birdies on three of his opening five holes.
