White House aides fret over Trump's Russian Federation probe obsession”

Former FBI director James Comey told Congress last week that Trump pressured him to drop an investigation into his former national security advisor, Mike Flynn, who was forced to quit for lying about his links to Moscow.

The new allegations against Trump center on his own admission that he fired Comey because of the Russian Federation investigation, and suggestions he asked several top intelligence officials for their help altering the inquiry's direction. Trump conceded in an interview after the episode that he was thinking about the Russian Federation controversy when he made that decision.

But Rosenstein could end up recusing himself, too, Justice officials say, in part because he played a role in President Donald Trump's firing of FBI Director James Comey. The tweet was not confirmation that the president or his attorney has been informed by the Department of Justice or Mueller that Trump is the subject of an investigation.

The transition official spoke on condition of anonymity because the person was not authorized to discuss post-election decisions publicly.

In a series of statements on Twitter, Trump called special counsel Robert Mueller's investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 campaign a "WITCH HUNT" based on the "phony" premise of possible collusion between Russia and a cadre of Trump campaign associates.

Rosenstein took over the Russian Federation probe soon after Attorney General Jeff Sessions recused himself.

President Donald Trump says the economy is improving and job numbers are up, despite the "phony Witch Hunt" against him.

Rosenstein named Mueller as special counsel last month to lead the inquiry into Russia's meddling in last year's United States presidential campaign and whether anyone close to Trump colluded in that effort. The order also covers separate inquiries into several key Trump associates including former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn, campaign adviser Paul Manafort, foreign policy aide Carter Page and outside adviser Roger Stone. The attorney general was at a White House meeting when the notification came from Rosenstein, prompting the enraged President to scold the attorney general for the turn of events. He has already been subpoenaed by the House Permanent Select Intelligence Committee.

The Post and The New York Times both reported that Mueller was seeking interviews with three Trump administration officials who weren't involved in Trump's campaign: Dan Coats, the director of national intelligence; Michael Rogers, the head of the National Security Agency; and Richard Ledgett, the former NSA deputy director.

Vice President Mike Pence has also hired a private lawyer to represent his interests in the expanding probe. "Regulations way down, jobs and enthusiasm way up!"

"The Fake News Media hates when I use what has turned out to be my very powerful Social Media - over 100 million people!"

The president tweeted Friday, "After 7 months of investigations & committee hearings about my 'collusion with the Russians, ' nobody has been able to show any proof". Mueller has been building a team of investigators for a wide-ranging inquiry into Russia's meddling.

A source on Trump's legal team claimed the president was referring to a Washington Post story "from the other night" rather than confirming he is being investigated.
