Baby born mid-flight on Jet Airways plane”

Mumbai/Kochi: A woman from Kerala, a southern Indian state, gave birth to a healthy baby boy while flying at a height of 35,000 feet on Jet Airways's Dammam-Kochi flight on Sunday morning, officials said. When the woman went in labour, the crew of flight 9W 569 declared a medical emergency and diverted to the nearest airport, which happened to be Mumbai.

"Pleased to offer newly-born a free lifetime pass for all his travel on Jet Airways", it added. The cabin crew sought the help of a nurse who was also on the flight and the mother-to-be was moved into the first class area, where the delivery took place. However, this connection could reportedly not be activated.// Read this story in Malayalam A Jet Airways spokesman confirmed this mid-air delivery on their flight.

The plane later resumed its onward journey to Kochi and reached its destination at 12.45 pm after a delay of 90 minutes. In October 2015, a baby was born in a similar fashion on a flight from Taipei to Los Angeles. So as per the U.S. law, which states that every child born in country's water or airspace is entitled to have USA citizenship by birth, the baby became USA citizen.
