Grenfell Tower Fire Protesters Storm Kensington Town Hall in London

Grenfell Tower Fire Protesters Storm Kensington Town Hall in London”

British police say 58 people are missing and presumed to have died in this week's blaze at a west London highrise apartment building.

May announced the aid package to victims of the fire inside St. Clements church close to Grenfell Tower in west London.

Metropolitan Police commander Stuart Cundy has said that there are still some bodies in Grenfell tower but conditions have been too hazardous to retrieve them. The toll stood at 30 on Friday. Earlier the police figured the death toll at 30.

Prime Minister Theresa May has come under criticism for not meeting residents when she visited the site on Thursday to talk with emergency workers.

After a botched snap election that lost her party its majority in Parliament, Mrs May is under fire for her response to the blaze on Wednesday.

There is simmering anger in the multi-ethnic north Kensington area hit by the blaze, and public fury has been directed at senior government figures, including May, who was jeered Friday after she visited.

He added: "I have said it before, you have my absolute assurance that as soon as I can possibly tell you something that I know to be accurate, I will tell you". The long-term consequences need to be addressed now, they said.

The meeting lasted more than two hours Saturday but the group did not speak to reporters gathered outside.

There has been growing fury at the low-rent estate where residents wanted answers on why the fire was able to spread so rapidly and why complaints about safety had been ignored. She has also pledged $6.4 million in support to the residents and promised that those who lost their homes would be relocated within three weeks.

"Grenfell is where they shove all the people who don't have any choice", said a resident as he watched his home burn.

Some people then left the building though others remained inside. "I absolutely get why they're angry".

While the blaze has prompted an outpouring of generosity, with many people donating provisions and clothes, it has also unleashed rage at the authorities as the charred tower was cast as a deadly symbol of a deeply divided society.

The leader of Kensington and Chelsea Council - the authority that owns the tower block - told the BBC it would not use the type of cladding fitted to Grenfell Tower in other buildings in the borough. During the video, Rania is seen leading people in the smoke-filled corridor into her apartment for shelter to ensure their safety.

The tragedy cast a pall on the Trooping the Color festivities that mark the official birthday of Queen Elizabeth II.

"This should not be happening in the United Kingdom, this should never happen". "Sadly, we do not expect any survivors".

Such a direct message from the monarch is rare and shows the extent of the turmoil in Britain. Grief turned to outrage Friday amid reports that materials used in the building's renovation could have fueled the inferno that left dozens dead and missing as it decimated the public housing block.
