Jury begins deliberating charges brought against officer who fatally shot Philando Castile”

"That wasn't my intention", Yanez said, according to local outlet WCCO.

Seventy-four seconds is the amount of time that elapsed between the moment Yanez turned on his squad vehicle lights to the moment he fired the seventh and final shot into Castile's auto.

The 32-year-old school cafeteria worker was one in a string of black men to die at the hands of police in recent years, and his death drew additional attention because his girlfriend, Diamond Reynolds, streamed the gruesome aftermath on Facebook.

No explanation was given for the request.

That video began only after Castile had already been shot five times.

The squad-car video shows a wide view of the traffic stop and the shooting, with the camera pointed toward Castile's auto. He says Castile was ignoring his commands not to pull it out.

The mother of a black man fatally shot by a Minnesota police officer last July says her son shouldn't have died the way he did. Defense attorneys highlighted inconsistencies in Reynolds' statements to investigators to try to raise doubts about her honesty.

By early afternoon Monday, the prosecution and defense had made their final arguments.

Gray said Yanez had plenty of justification for shooting, because he thought Castile was a robbery suspect. Castile's gun permit was later found in his wallet. Castile appears to give something to Yanez through the driver's side window.

Paulsen went back to the brief conversation Castile had with Yanez that night - and the fact Castile told him he had a firearm, as the dash camera showed - as further proof of why it wouldn't make sense for Castile to be motivated to pull it out and use it. Yanez fired seven shots, hitting Castile five times, including twice in the heart, prosecutors said.

After the shooting, the video shows Yanez standing at the auto window with his gun drawn for some time.

Three groups are hosting a Facebook event called "Day of Verdict: Justice4Philando Emergency Unity Response" - Justice Occupation for Philando, Twin Cities Coalition for Justice 4 Jamar, and Communities United Against Police Brutality. Officers direct Reynolds out of the auto.

"You didn't say firearm", Assistant Ramsey County Attorney Rick Dusterhoft said of Yanez's BCA interview.

The officer who fatally shot Philando Castile during a traffic stop in July 2016 testified in court Friday that he fired his gun because he feared for his life.

After Castile was stopped, Yanez asked him to present his driver's license and insurance card.

Yanez, who is Latino, is charged with second-degree manslaughter, which is punishable by up to 10 years in prison, and two lesser counts of endangering the safety of Reynolds and her daughter for firing his gun into the auto near them. Was Castile putting his hands up, like she said in her video, or was it just one hand? She has declined to comment previously, but she said, "We need to stand in solidarity to let them know that this is not about ourselves".

Earl Gray urged a jury to clear officer Jeronimo (yeh-RON'-ih-moh) Yanez of a manslaughter charge in the July death of Philando Castile.

She said she is praying for justice. The rest are white.

Closing arguments were expected at midmorning in the trial of police Officer Jeronimo (yeh-RON'-ih-moh) Yanez.

Prosecutor Jeff Paulsen highlighted autopsy evidence in his closing argument in the trial of officer Jeronimo Yanez, who fatally shot Philando Castile just seconds after pulling his auto over last July in a St. Paul suburb. Paulsen is assisting the Ramsey County attorney's office on the case.

Clarence Castile, uncle of Philando Castile, leaves the Ramsey County Courthouse in St. Paul, Minn. on Monday, June 12, 2017.
