London Mayor Sadiq Khan: Dated UK tower blocks could be torn down”

London Mayor Sadiq Khan said the devastating Grenfell Tower block fire was caused by "years of neglect", describing the tragedy as "a national disaster that requires a national response".

"I have always said I will be accurate about what I know, so the next figure of those presumed dead and missing will be released tomorrow, Monday 19 June".

The new exterior cladding used in a renovation on London's Grenfell Tower may have been banned under United Kingdom building regulations, two British ministers said Sunday as police continued their criminal investigation into the inferno that killed at least 58 people.

Cundy said police would consider criminal prosecutions if there is evidence of wrongdoing and the police investigation would include scrutiny of the renovation project. "This number 58 may change".

Metropolitan Police said family liaison officers have been deployed to support 52 families of residents who died, were injured or were reported missing.

Members of the emergency services work inside burnt out remains of the Grenfell apartment tower in North Kensington, London.

The prince's embrace broke with royal protocol - touching royal members is historically reserved for handshakes - and instead embraced the distressed woman who was reportedly desperate to locate her husband who was trapped an elevator during the time of the fire.

British Prime Minister Theresa May admitted on Saturday that "the support on the ground for families who needed help or basic information in the initial hours after this appalling disaster was not good enough".

"I've heard stories of heroism - from Christians, from Muslims and from others - looking after their brothers and sisters and neighbors, and doing the job that we expect from this brilliant, fantastic community that is here in this part of London", he said outside St Clement's Church, which is also operating as a relief center for survivors.

After hosting some of the families of the victims and community leaders in No 10 yesterday, Mrs May acknowledged the response from authorities had been inadequate.

Community groups have said warnings about poor fire safety have always been ignored, and that in the aftermath of the disaster, officials had failed to immediately take care of those affected.

The first victim formerly identified to the public is 23-year-old Syrian refugee Mohammad Alhajali.

In a television interview on Friday, she sidestepped questions over whether she had misread the public mood.

Last night one senior Government minister told the Telegraph: "They are on the cusp of encouraging insurrection and hijacking a truly bad event". "I absolutely get why they're angry", Green said.

Hundreds have been left homeless by the blaze, putting more pressure on officials in a city already plagued by a chronic housing shortage.

The tragedy has provoked a big response from nearby communities that have donated food and shelter to the victim.

"The fire at Grenfell Tower was an unimaginable tragedy for the community, and for our country".

Numerous displaced are living in churches and community centers. "My commitment to families is that as soon as we can, we will locate and recover their loved ones", Cundy said.

Two Underground lines near the fire area were partially shut down on Saturday to make sure that debris did not land on the tracks.
