Trump takes aim at 'fake news media' and Hillary Clinton

Trump takes aim at 'fake news media' and Hillary Clinton”

His investigation then grew to include looking at whether President Trump fired FBI Director James Comey because he was unwilling to back off the Russian Federation investigation.

But Robert Mueller has been appointed special counsel to investigate Russian involvement in the 2016 presidential election and possible collusion with the Trump campaign.

Trump's comments came as lawyers for his presidential transition ordered former staffers to preserve all physical and electronic documents in order to comply with ongoing Russian Federation investigations.

Trump and his White House have offered various explanations for Comey's abrupt ouster, including that he lost the confidence of the bureau's rank and file - a suggestion flatly dismissed by acting director Andrew McCabe. On Friday, the President tweeted he was under "investigation", which he called a "witch hunt" in another tweet.

Trump's 9:07 a.m. tweet appeared to be principally directed at Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, the number-two official at the Justice Department who authored a memo justifying Comey's firing.

Rosenstein handed the reigns of that investigation over to independent Special Counsel Robert Mueller about one week after Comey's dismissal. He testified that he leaked information about the notes through a friend to the Times to increase pressure for the appointment of a special prosecutor after he concluded Trump's administration "defamed" him and the Federal Bureau of Investigation after his May 9 firing.

The lobbyist said he advised Trump, who was the Republican candidate at that time, on his first major foreign policy speech.

In a tweet earlier Friday, Trump said nobody has been able to show any proof about his collusion with Moscow after months of investigations.

The inquiry's apparent expansion to target Trump reportedly focuses on whether the president attempted to obstruct the investigation - in particular, on Trump's reported attempts to encourage former FBI director James Comey to end an investigation into former national security adviser Michael Flynn. The order by the general counsel for his transition team casts a wide net on documents that could shed light on ties between Trump's presidential campaign and representatives of Russia's government.

When Rosenstein appeared before the House Appropriations Committee this week, he stated that Comey's firing could very well become a factor for Mueller's investigation. "Nice", the president wrote on Twitter.

The president tweeted Friday, "Despite the phony Witch Hunt going on in America, the economic & jobs numbers are great".
