Thousands gathered in Orlando Monday night to remember the victims killed in the deadliest terror attack on US soil since 9-11.This marks one year since 49 people lost their lives in the Pulse nightclub shooting in Orlando, Fla.

US President Donald Trump sent out a tweet today acknowledging the 49 people who were shot to death a year ago inside the gay nightclub Pulse by a lone gunman in Orlando, Florida.

One year later, memorials all around the world are honoring the 49 victims who lost their lives in what's being called the deadliest shooting in us history.

Survivors and victims' relatives were invited to enter the fenced-in space surrounding the shuttered venue shortly after 2 a.m. - marking one year since the moment the attack began - as victims' names were read aloud.

"I realize that gathering here in this place, at this hour, is beyond hard", Dyer said during the service. "I've also been a patron", said Officer Clarke.

Florida Governor Rick Scott ordered US flags around the state to be flown at half-staff.

The ceremony also honored 50 others who were wounded that terrifying night, many of whom are still coping with what happened.

Hundreds of people left flowers, cards and drawings at the nightclub to honor the victims.

"I miss Pulse", she said.

"I still come back sometimes and go back to that night, and it's like I know we need to go on with our lives, especially with the type of work that I do".

Monday's services culminated several days of events aimed at turning the grim anniversary into something positive.

The city declared the day "Orlando United Day - A Day of Love and Kindness" and is encouraging acts of compassion by its residents.

A fundraising "Rainbow Run" took place over the weekend and a businessman donated thousands of dollars to eight gay and lesbian students for their college studies.

Orange County Mayor Teresa Jacobs summing up the evening events with "Here in Orlando, love always triumphs".

The Pulse nightclub itself has since been surrounded by various tributes, and will now be turned into a permanent memorial. She was later charged with obstructing a federal investigation, as well as aiding Mateen. She was not present for the shooting and has pleaded not guilty.
