Freeview Unveils New-Look Plus Platform”

Freeview Plus is a hybrid digital television service that provides access to catch-up free-to-air programming on TVs and led the world when it launched in 2014, winning local and worldwide accolades for its ground-breaking technology and user interface. Located as a separate tab in the Freeview Play menu, it will provide a showcase of the day's best on-demand content from the BBC, ITV, Channel 4, Demand 5 and other Freeview Play broadcasters. Users can now search for programmes by genre or programme name.

Freeview CEO Elizabeth Ross says My TV presents viewers with image-based carousels including personalised recommendations and viewers' favourites along with live TV, catch up and genre-based browsing. Viewers can access the new feature via the apps page.

Those TVs or set-top boxes which support Freeview Play - of which around 2 million have now been sold in the United Kingdom - will gain access to Freeview Explore from the apps page.

A Help & Alerts feature will be rolled out in the coming months too, and this will give users access to instructional videos, news and information on platform updates.

Over 1.5 million Freeview Play devices have now been sold and over 20 tech brands support the platform. The new feature is the latest development for Freeview Play which launched in 2015 and has now become the most widely adopted catch-up service on televisions in the UK.

Guy North, Managing Director of Freeview said, "With more content than ever available, Freeview Explore creates an easy way for viewers to find the shows they love or discover new ones for the first time".

The Freeview Plus upgrade is a significant one and we are excited to deliver the next level in content discovery and choice for Australia's free-to-air TV programming.
