Gulf Crisis: Iran sends tons of food stock to Qatar

Gulf Crisis: Iran sends tons of food stock to Qatar”

Despite the country being at the centre of a diplomatic crisis which has seen Qatar cut off politically - and economically - from neighbouring Gulf countries, organisers were unworried, said the source.

Saudi Arabia is not a signatory.

A Qatari businessman is planning to airlift 4,000 dairy cows to the country to tackle the acute shortage of fresh milk after several Gulf nations severed ties with Doha.

Turkey and Iran have promised Qatar food supplies and troops.

A Saudi Arabian airline on Monday tweeted a warm welcome to pilots and staff from Qatar Airways whom it hopes to poach after the kingdom severed air links with Doha. The Eritrean Information Ministry statement of support came despite previously close ties with Qatar.

Analysts estimate that at least 40 percent of all of Qatar's food supplies are transported across its land border with Saudi Arabia.

"I think that as the elder statesman of the Gulf, the king of Saudi Arabia should solve this affair and show leadership", Erdoğan told members of his party in parliament on June 13.

He said millions of Pakistanis were working in Saudi Arabia, UAE, Qatar and other Gulf countries; drop in oil prices is causing macroeconomic instability.

Jubeir said Qatar can move goods in and out "whenever they want".

Local media presented the maritime operation as proof that Doha can survive the dispute with its former partners, which accuse Qatar of promoting and supporting terrorism, sheltering radical Islamic groups that threaten regional security and having strong ties with Iran.

Amnesty International on June 9 criticised the measures against Qatar as sweeping and arbitrary and said they had split up families and destroyed peoples' livelihoods and education.

In a post on Twitter Monday, the small budget airline says it welcomes applications from Saudi nationals working for Qatar Airways on the Airbus A320. Qatar denied all the allegations floated against it as baseless.

Five planes loaded with 90 tons of food each have been dispatched to Qatar since the beginning of the crisis, last week, Iran Air spokesman Shahrokh Noushabadi told AFP on Sunday.

Making life more uncomfortable for Qatar is Donald Trump's open support for the other side.
