Mattis Issues Stark Words To North Korea Over Otto Warmbier's Death”

South Korean President Moon Jae-in on Tuesday said North Korea should swiftly return South Koreans and Americans detained in the reclusive nation and that Pyongyang had "a heavy responsibility" in the death of a U.S. university student. "That should never ever be allowed to happen", Trump said. After spending more than a year in a coma, the OH student died a week after returning to the United States.

Former President Barack Obama has issued a statement about American college student Otto Warmbier, who died this week, days after being released from North Korea in a coma, after more than a year in captivity. He was imprisoned for 17 months before being returned to the United States, comatose, on June 13.

There was no immediate word from Warmbier's family on the cause of his death.

The United Nations has blacklisted hundreds of North Korean entities, but many of them try to get business done though China, according to USA officials. "We can not know for sure that North Korea killed Mr. Warmbier", he said.

Secretary of State Rex Tillerson, who has the authority to cut off travel to North Korea with the stroke of the pen, has been weighing such a move since late April, when American teacher Tony Kim was detained in Pyongyang, a senior State Department official said.

"I also urge North Korea to return these people to their families". It had long pushed for a resumption of USA negotiations with North Korea, which now appears a remote prospect. Like others held under varying terms of detention, from cramped, windowless shacks offering little protection from the country's bitter cold to hotel rooms, Fowle recalled the sense of isolation he felt.

Tillerson called for increased efforts to curtail the North's illicit revenue streams of revenue that allegedly help fund its nuclear weapon and missile programs.

'While I greatly appreciate the efforts of President Xi & China to help with North Korea, it has not worked out.

"He mentioned that it would be an honour to be able to meet Kim Jong Un", Moon told CBS.

Following the meeting, China's role was one of the administration's main talking points in explaining North Korea. Warmbier's death undercuts any progress from those meetings.

He went on a student trip to North Korea previous year and was held captive by Kim Jong Un's regime for allegedly trying to steal a propaganda poster.

American concern is growing over North Korea's acceleration toward having a nuclear missile that can strike the US mainland.

The decision came after Young Pioneer Tours, the travel agency that organized Warmbier's trip to the North, said on its Facebook page that due to "this tragic outcome we will no longer be organizing tours for USA citizens to North Korea".

The 22-year-old "has completed his journey home", relatives said in a statement.

"I have great confidence that China will properly deal with North Korea".

Secretary of Defense James Mattis reinforced the message, calling the dialogue "open and frank", and insisting, "China continues to work these issues". "That is all I am telling you", Trump told the Financial Times. "He should have been brought home a long time ago".
